Third-graders exercise power of principal persuasion

Winthrop School third-graders wrote persuasive essays addressed to Principal Carolyn Shediac. They argued that one of the silver linings of the changes over the past year was enjoying lunch outside, rather than eating in the cafeteria. They are advocating for this to continue next year, rather than returning to lunch in the crowded and noisy cafeteria. Their reasons ranged from enjoyment of the outdoors, being able to eat with their friends from both classes, health and safety concerns about spreading germs and food allergies, as well as their concern for those of us who can hear the noise from the cafeteria filled with 80-100 students at any given time.

They brainstormed solutions to some of the logistics around using lunch trays again, rather than the plastic containers we are using this year that is not very eco-friendly. I told them that they had persuaded me and we would discuss this further.
