If we vote no on the new consolidated school, can we change the scope of work and use MSBA funding to renovate instead?
Watch Eric Tracy answer the question HERE, begins at the 12:28 minute-mark.
No. A "no" vote ends the current MSBA project. Any future plan, including renovation, would require starting the MSBA application process from scratch. Once accepted back into the program, this process can take many years from acceptance to completion. There’s no guarantee the district would be reaccepted, and years of work and funding opportunities would be lost. The cost escalation over those years would be considerable. Ipswich is a good example; their original cost in 2018 was approximately 70 million for an elementary school of 775 students. Estimates for the same building in today’s dollars will likely exceed 140 million. Remember, we were accepted in 2022 and are still working towards completion of the modules related to that original acceptance.
