District & School Goals 2004-2005

 

 

District Goal:         To raise expectations for student achievement by engaging and challenging all learners.

Goal I:                     Establish an appropriate learning climate

 

1.1           Build a positive school community supported by students, teachers and parents. (Buker)

 

1.2           Create a caring and responsive school community for children and adults.  (Winthrop)

 

1.3           Build a collegial culture and sense of professional vitality at the middle school. (Miles River)

 

1.4           Develop a plan that addresses adolescent substance abuse at the High School. (High School)

1.5           Investigate and improve the school resources for learning (High School)

1.6           Develop a district technology plan that assures both curriculum and academic services are appropriately supported. (District Curriculum & All Schools)

 

1.7           Develop a strategic plan for the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District.

 

Goal II:                    Engage students in meaningful learning      

 

2.1           Teach students explicit strategies to become more engaged and responsible learners through a school-wide focus on “effective effort”. (Cutler)

 

2.2           Strengthen and build children’s confidence in written and oral communications. (Winthrop)

 

2.3           Collaborate with teachers to increase the performance of special education students in mathematics on the MCAS to meet the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) defined by the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). (Miles River)

 

2.4                 Review student programming needs at each level and develop a plan to meet those needs effectively:  (1) integrated full-day kindergarten and language-based programs at the elementary level; (2) an alternative program at the middle school; and (3) an alternative program at the high school. (Special Education & All Schools)

 

2.5                 Review curriculum and make recommendations for program development in the areas of social studies, foreign language, physical education/health science, elementary language arts, and technology. (District Curriculum & All Schools))

 

 

Goal III:                   Challenge all learners

 

3.1           Develop programs and adopt instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of the pre-K-5 students (Buker, Cutler, Winthrop)

3.2          Review and revise the school’s mission statement and develop corresponding expectations for student learning in preparation for the High School Self-Study for NEASC reaccredidation in September 2006. (High School)
