A native of the Midwest, Marinel
D. McGrath, lived in several Midwestern and Northeastern states as well as Ireland,
England, Switzerland and France before settling in Massachusetts. Her commitment
to young people is demonstrated through both her professional and volunteer
work. As a public school teacher, she taught English, French, and German and
served as a resource teacher for academically gifted and creatively talented
students at the elementary, middle and high school levels in Indiana and Massachusetts.
As a school administrator, she served as a teacher/coordinator for several gifted
and talented programs in Medfield, Hanover, Canton and Newburyport; a PK
12 curriculum director in Newburyport, MA , and an assistant superintendent
in Andover, MA.
She serves as an advocate for children
and young adults in her role as a public school educator and through her service
on several boards that promote equity in the areas of gender and educational
opportunities for girls and minorities. Her academic interests lie in the area
of foundations and applications of educational policy, education reform, curriculum
and instruction, and organizational learning. She spends her leisure time reading,
doing needlework and quilting as well as skiing, sailing, and travelling with
her husband, Gary.
