Michael Harvey, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools
Michael Harvey Ed.D. has been the Superintendent of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District (HWRSD), a grades preK-12, public school system in Northeast Massachusetts, since July of 2012. The HWRSD consists of five schools; three preK-5 elementary schools, one grade 6-8 middle school and a 9-12 high school. Since coming to the HWRSD, Dr. Harvey has worked to develop and implement several innovative programs to educate students to be productive citizens in the 21st Century economy. These programs include a 1:1 iPad Program for students in grades 9-12, a Mandarin Chinese Language Program for middle school students, and a full-day kindergarten program at the elementary level.
Prior to coming to the HWRSD, Dr. Harvey was the Principal of Belmont High School, a public school in Belmont, Massachusetts. At Belmont, Dr. Harvey was instrumental in developing programs to meet the needs of secondary school students in the 21st century, including a China-America student exchange program through the Ameson Foundation in Nanjing, China, the Belmont High Honors Program to increase the participation rates of minority students in Advanced Placement Courses and the creation of faculty study-groups to address the inclusion of 21st century skills in the curriculum.
Dr. Harvey has worked in education for over twenty years in the roles of Superintendent, High School Principal, K-12 Curriculum Director for the Social Studies, Assistant Principal, and English and Social Studies Teacher. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and History from Amherst College, a Master of Arts from Northeastern University in History and a Doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell in School Leadership.
