College Panel
Juniors and their parents are invited to attend the Regional High School's annual College Panel on Tuesday evening, March 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the Music Room. Representatives of several colleges will be on hand to address matters pertaining to the college search, application and admissions process. These colleges represent a a cross section of post-secondary types, i.e., urban/suburban, small/large, public/private, highly selective/open enrollment, etc. We extend out thanks to the admissions representatives form Boston College, Harvard College, Northeastern University, North Shore Community College, Suffolk University and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst for joining us for this special presentation. The evening pronises to be very interesting and informative for all in attendance. The presentation will be taped by our TV Production students and subsequently televised on the local cable network.

Financial Aid Night
The Guidance Office hosted a Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, November 18th. An experienced MEFA representative discussed the financial aid process. The seminar taught parents how to apply for financial aid, compare financial aid award letters and seek available financing options. Families received a seminar booklet which serve as a year-round resource. Time was allowed for questions and answers. Check out the presentation <here>.

Attention Seniors and their Parents
Parents that were unable to attend the Guidance Department's "Evening for Seniors and Their Parents" on Thursday, September 22, 2009 can click here to view the PowerPoint presentations. Materials that were reviewed are available in the "Post-Secondary Planning Guide for the Class of 2010" which was handed out to all class members last year and its also available in the publications section of this website.

PSAT
We anticipate that PSAT score information will be sent by College Board in early to mid December. Counselors will then disseminate the reports through English classes.

Introduction to Naviance

We are pleased to introduce Family Connection from Naviance, a web-based service designed especially for students and parents. Family Connection is a comprehensive website that students can use to make decisions about courses, colleges and careers. Family Connection is linked with Counselor's Office, a service that the guidance department uses to track and analyze data about colleges and career plans.

Family Connection from Naviance can be accessed as follows: http://connection.naviance.com/hwrhs

Registration codes are needed to log on to Family Connection. Seniors and juniors have been given codes as have their parents. If you are the parent of a senior or junior and have not received an access code yet, it may be because we do not currently have your e-mail address. Please send an e-mail to the Guidance Secretary Andrea Adamo at adamoa@hwschools.net and include your child's name in the e-mail. Sophomore and Freshman parents - stay tuned!

Planning a College Visit
The school encourages juniors and seniors to visit colleges during weekends and school vacations. Students may be granted up to three (3) excused absences for college visits if the appropriate guidance form is completed with all necessary signatures, and pre-approved by the assistant principal at least one day in advance of the visit. <click here>

College Visits to the Guidance Office
Visits will begin in September. Students interested in meeting with college representatives should sign up in the Guidance Office at least one day in advance to receive a pass that must be signed by the teacher whose class meets during that block. Students must bring that signed pass to the guidance office with them to attend the session. Attendance is taken and passes are issued to return to class if time remains in the block.

A list of planned visits is posted in and around the Guidance Office as well as on Naviance.

Financial Aid
Financial Aid Information is available to parents & students from a variety of reputable resources.  However, as scholarship scams abound be certain to remain vigilant with respect to promises of scholarship aid.  The federal government has some very helpful information. Visit http://www.ftc.gov/scholarshipscams

Job Board for Students
The Guidance Department maintains a Job Board for students who are interested in working. Students are encouraged to stop by and take a look at what is available.
